County Prepares for Next Wildfire Season

Wildfires can strike the region at any time. But fall is a particularly hazardous time for fires. The hot, dry summer months coupled with Santa Ana winds create conditions for a perfect fire storm.

County Prepares for Next Wildfire Season

Tom Fudge : Last fall, San Diego woke up to the same nightmare we had experienced four years before. Unstoppable wildfires that were consuming hundreds of thousand of acres of land. The Witch and the Harris fires burned close to 400,000 acres in San Diego County and destroyed 1,700 homes.

This year, the Santa Ana wind conditions that stoked the wildfires are bound to return. Perhaps the good news is that so much backcountry brush burned last year that our chances of another conflagration are a bit slimmer today. The risk remains, however, and today we've invited two men to our studios to answer the question of how well prepared we are for this Santa Ana fire season.
