Open Enrollment For Kids Health Insurance Winding Down

Two weeks -- that’s the amount of time parents have left to get lower premiums for their kid’s health care.

State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones is urging parents to act now.

“The price of that insurance between now and March 1st would be lower than what it would be after. Afterwards, you’re still entitled to get this private health insurance but the price will be higher in all likelihood.”

As much as 20 percent higher according to Jones. And he points out, after March 1st, the next open enrollment period is the month your child was born.

Because of the federal health care law, all children must be offered health coverage if they apply. Insurance companies can no longer deny kids coverage because of pre-existing conditions like asthma or diabetes.
