Port Chairman Scott Peters has jumped into the race for the 52nd district, adding to speculation about whether or not the seat will remain in Republican hands, or swing Democratic.
Since redistricting, incumbent Republican Brian Bilbray will move from the 50th district, where he had a 9-point republican advantage, to take on the 52nd, in which he has only a 3-point advantage.
The district includes Poway, La Jolla and downtown San Diego.
Democrat Lori Saldana, a former state Assemblywoman, has already thrown her hat into the ring.
Scott Peters is familiar to San Diego city voters as a member of the council who was embroiled in the pension deficit scandal; he was also a former candidate for city attorney. He built a reputation as a mediator during his term as President of the Council as they tried to dig themselves out of the hole.
