San Diego Gay Activist Objects To Honoring Bradley Manning At Pride Parade

Sean Sala

San Diego resident Sean Sala, a Navy veteran and gay rights activist, lead the protest when word was leaked that the San Francisco Pride Parade named Army Pvt. Bradley Manning as its Grand Marshal.

Manning is currently on trial for allegedly leaking sensitive military documents to WikiLeaks.

Sala immediately responded to the parade announcement by creating an online petition to protest the move. That petition reads, in part:

Bradley Manning is a traitor to the United States... He is a shame to the LGBT Military community and he stands for everything the LGBT Military community stands against. He turned Secret United States information over to our enemies. He DOES NOT REPRESENT THE GAY MILITARY COMMUNITY! SHAME ON SAN FRANCISCO!

Later, SF Pride Board President Lisa L. Williams released a statement via Facebook to calm the outrage:

Bradley Manning will not be a grand marshal in this year's San Francisco Pride celebration. His nomination was a mistake and should never have been allowed to happen. A staff person at SF Pride, acting under his own initiative, prematurely contacted Bradley Manning based on internal conversations within the SF Pride organization. That was an error and that person has been disciplined. He does not now, nor did he at that time, speak for SF Pride.

Still, the matter caught the attention of editors at the national online magazine Salon, who invited Sala to participate in a debate about whether Manning is a hero to the LGBT community. Click here to check out the debate.

It's really frustrating when you are part of a minority community and those who claim they "represent you" are themselves self-serving hacks.

Mr. Sala speaks for himself - and apparently the military of which he is still brainwashed by - not any wider gay community.

In fact, he is supposedly a resident of San Diego so why his opinion is even being considered by a San Francisco festival is beyond me.

The U.S. military is responsible for so much cover-up, secrecy, and self-serving criminal "justice" and wikileaks which simply exposed some of this is being made the scapegoat.

I would welcome Manning to the San Diego Pride parade, but I'm sure Sala and the local military bosses who don't like the people who actually pay their salaries knowing what's REALLY going on would have big hissy-fits and block it.

How funny that a minority of a minority of a minority of a minority (radical militarist-gay-sailor-veterans), feels the need to scream about a parade in another city.

I had to laugh.

But the sad thing is that brainwashed people like Sala don't realize many veterans support Bradley Manning, yet don't write about it on Facebook because radical militarist-gay-sailor-veterans will have a hissy-fit meltdown.

CADef, I have to agree with you on this one.

BTW, one clarification to my post - obviously since Manning is detained he couldn't actually come to SD's pride, I meant to say if he was invited to be honored as grand marshall or something similar as SF tried to do before being bullied by Sala and his ilk.

The worst is that Manning's actions had little impact. The debate revolves more around what he did rather than what he revealed.

It appears most Americans don't want to know the truth. They'd rather sit back, dull their minds with American Idol, expand their waists with McDonalds, and keep the horrors of Iraq and Afghanistan neatly covered up by propaganda.

Out of sight, out of mind. Now pass the fries and turn the TV up!

Here's one very simple definition of traitor: a person who says one thing and does another. One could effectively argue, using this definition, that our own government could be considered such.

"Traitor", like "terrorist", is a political buzzword, a tool of propaganda utilized by the ruling elite to demonize "the enemy" for engaging in the very same behavior in which they themselves are complicit. By engaging in such sensationalism himself, Sean ignorantly collaborates with those who would abuse their power and seek to control and coerce the rest of us.

And by claiming to be the voice of all of us- " ..he stands for everything the LGBT Military community stands against"- he presumes too much and perceives too little. He certainly does not speak for this gay Marine Veteran.
