Wind advisory issued for San Diego County valleys and mountains

A wind advisory went into effect early Monday for the valleys and mountains of San Diego County.

Strong surface pressure gradients were producing gusty east to northeast winds, especially from Santa Ysabel south to Pine Valley and near Campo, according to the National Weather Service, which issued the advisory until 7 p.m.

The agency said there were sustained winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour and widespread gusts up to 40 mph. Also, isolated gusts up to 50 mph in favored windy locations were possible Monday.

"Gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles," an NWS advisory said. "Watch for downed trees."

The winds were expected to gradually weaken this evening, though isolated breezy offshore winds were likely to continue throughout the week.
