Parents Of POW Bowe Bergdahl Receive First Letter From Son (Video)

POW Bowe Bergdahl Sends Letter Home

The parents of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl said this week they received a letter they believe was written by their son. Bergdahl has been a prisoner of war since 2009, when he disappeared near his base in Afghanistan.

The Associated Press reports Bob and Jani Bergdahl of Hailey, Idaho, released a statement Thursday through the International Committee of the Red Cross that read, in part:

“Our family is greatly relieved and encouraged by this letter."

According to CNN, Bob Bergdahl wrote to Dwight Murphy of the Boise, Idaho POW/MIA group, informing him of the letter from his son. Murphy then posted the email from the elder Bergdahl on Facebook:

"We have received a letter from Bowe through the Red Cross!

He was scripted and redacted but he was no doubt alive and his faculties fully functioning as of 2 months ago.

They are being very careful with him. He is still highly valued at high levels.

Guantanamo, drones and politics in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Washington are still the big issues."

Bergdahl, 27, was discovered missing from his duty station in eastern Afghanistan on June 30, 2009. He was declared missing/captured three days later.

The U.S. government believes he his being held in Pakistan.

Boise television station KTVB interviewed Dwight Murphy about the Bergdahls' reaction to their son's letter. I've posted that video up top.

And Guantanamo is still a big issue.

Of course it is, it needs to be CLOSED.

Negotiate a release of this man and any other POWs contingent on closing Gitmo (which should have been done long ago!).

It would be a win-win for all sides, why can't our government get it together with this?

Obama has no intention of closing Gitmo despite saying he would for five years now and being a major campaign point in 2008 and 2012. In fact he is likely to sign the 2014 Defense Authorization Bill which includes an additional $247.4 million for repairs and expansion of the prison.

Obama has lost all credibility. Lying about his countless scandals (especially Prism) has shown the American people what he really is: deceitful.
