Thick Fog Disrupts Flights In, Out Of San Diego

SAN DIEGO —Thick fog has caused several flights destined to San Diego International Airport to be diverted elsewhere, and led to numerous flight delays and cancellations.

The airport's operations manager, Rod Rendon, said he didn't know exactly how many flights were disrupted by the fog Friday evening.

He said Southwest and United Airlines canceled "a bunch" of flights in and out of the coastal airport, and that the diverted flights were sent to airports in Los Angeles, Burbank and Ontario.

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a dense fog advisory from Friday evening through Saturday morning. Motorists were warned to slow down, leave plenty of distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them and use their low-beam headlights.
