She says their reign of terror is over. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis is seeking the largest preliminary injunction in San Diego County history against gang members in National City. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has more.
The injunction bans members of the Old Town National City Gang from associating with each other, using drugs or alcohol, or wearing gang clothes in two areas of National City designated as "safety zones." D.A. Bonnie Dumanis says gangs have become an insidious part of society.
Dumanis: "And we gotta stomp them out, and we're doing that by using these gang injunctions, keeping them out of our neighborhoods so that our people can use the parks are recreation that we have available."
Law enforcement officials started serving the injunctions to 104 members of the gang earlier this month. A judge will determine in January whether the preliminary injunction sought by the D.A. will become permanent. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS news.
