Paradise Now

Just last week, a Palestinian suicide bomber killed himself and five others when he detonated a bomb in a Hadera marketplace. Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad considers what could drive people to commit such an extreme in his new film, Paradise Now. KPBS Film Critic Beth Accomando has this review.Paradise Now takes the perspective of two Palestinian suicide bombers as they prepare for their mission. The film arrives in San Diego on the heels of The War Within--a film about a Pakistani suicide bomber. But while The War Within dealt with a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, Paradise Now is set in the Middle East, and that sense of distance might make American audiences more open to its point of view.
