A new report finds students who have computers at home are more likely to graduate from high school. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has the story.

The study finds teens with computers at home are as much as eight percent more likely to graduate from high school. But the study also finds a digital divide exists.

Almost three quarters of white students have home computers, while just 51 percent of African Americans and 49 percent of Latinos do.

UC Santa Cruz economics professor Robert Fairlie conducted the study. He says income is an important factor, but it's not the only factor.

Fairlie: "Parents who have higher education levels, even controlling for income, are more likely to have home computers, another aspect is what kids of jobs and occupations those parents are in."

Fairlie also says the digital divide is greater for children than adults. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS news.
