San Diego County pest control officials say the warm Santa Ana weather should serve as a reminder that it's not too soon to start taking measures to prevent mosquito infestations. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has more.
West Nile virus is spread by infected mosquitoes. Many of those pests hibernate in the winter because of the cooler weather. But the recent warm spell in our region may be bringing some mosquitoes back to life. Chris Conlin with the San Diego County Vector Control Program says late spring and summer is when the mosquitoes really become a threat so now's the perfect time to prepare for their arrival.
Conlin: The most important thing that people can do right now is to eliminate all of those sources you have in your yard that can hold water, and that includes tires, buckets, you name it, getting rid of them now means you don't have to worry about dumping water out of them later.
