President George Bush said today that immigrants to the United States must learn English. According to a recent survey by the Pew Hispanic Center the majority of Latinos agree. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.

President Bush made the comments at a community center in Nebraska. He said he will create a new task force within the Department of Homeland Security to encourage immigrants to adopt American values.

Gabriel Escobar is the Associate Director of the Pew Hispanic Center. He says 57-percent of Latinos agree learning English is a must, and even more believe it is important to teach the language to immigrant children.

Escobar: "The struggle will not be to convince Hispanics to learn English. Obviously, if the President's plan is to create something that would make the learning of English easier or more accessible, that could probably be very beneficial."
