KPBS joins the La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest 20th Anniversary Celebration by broadcasting SummerFest Encounters, hosted by Maureen Cavanaugh. Real people, real stories, stimulating conversation and musical performances, the Encounters go behind the scenes with some of today's most celebrated artists.

  • Leon Kirchner is an American composer who has spent his career on the cutting edge of 20th Century music. From his early days as a student of Arnold Schoenberg, Kirchner has become a celebrated pianist, teacher and conductor.
  • Magnus Lindberg has experimented with the extremes of modern music, all the while developing a mastery of orchestration. His recent works are praised for their color and energy, and he has become one of the most sought-after contemporary composers.
