House Republicans hold their third immigration hearing in San Diego County today. The session will focus on how illegal immigration impacts state and local governments. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
House Republicans have invited six speakers to testify at the hearing, including San Diego's top Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Michael Unzueta, County Supervisor Bill Horn and Sheriff Bill Kolender.
They'll discuss the costs of illegal immigration to the county in areas ranging from law enforcement to health care.
Critics say the hearings are a farce and call them a one-sided attempt to drum up support for the House's enforcement only immigration bill and stump for votes in advance of November's election. House Republicans say the hearings are aimed at pointing out shortcomings in the Senate bill. They're holding 21 similar sessions around the country this summer. Amy Isackson, KPBS News.
