Marine Corps officials say a new warplane coming to the Miramar Air Station will mean civilian use of the airport won't be possible. The Joint Strike Fighter or F-35, would play a critical role in national defense. Miramar officials say the development comes as no surprise. But it could affect an advisory measure on the November ballot.
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has proposed using Miramar as a possible replacement for Lindbergh Field. Advocates of a commercial airport at Miramar have largely agreed joint-use is infeasible under today's circumstances.
