Tom Fudge : Today, Scott Marks and Beth Accomando review several new movies. Martin Scorcese returns to familiar ground in a story of violence and male allegiances in The Departed . Clint Eastwood tells the story of Iwo Jima and the famous photo of Marines hoisting the Flag in Flags of our Fathers. And a documentary called Jesus Camp zeros in on the lives of children being raised as fundamentalist Christians. Plus, the San Diego Asian Film festival.
Next Tuesday the 17th, KPBS and FM 94.9 present a free screening of the documentary American Hardcore , which looks at the hardcore punk scene of the early 80’s. The screening is at 7 p.m. at Landmark’s Hillcrest Theaters. You can get passes by emailing filmclub@kpbs.org.
Also, Wednesday evening, KPBS hosts another event celebrating great local films. KPBS and FM 94.9 team up to present the “Best of San Diego Filmmakers” from the San Diego Film Festival. The screenings take place at the bar at the W Hotel in downtown San Diego. The festivities take place from 6 to 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.
