Tom Fudge : American Hardcore is the name of a movie that opens next Friday at Landmark’s Hillcrest Theaters. It tells the story of the American punk rock movement from about 1980 to ‘86. Most of the bands from that era, you probably haven’t heard of. But that was kind of the point. This was a movement in rock music that’s been described as tribal and exclusive. Performances ranged from chaotic to violent. And the audience was almost exclusively young white men.
Last night KPBS and FM 94/9 hosted a special screening of American Hardcore. DJ Michael Halloran was there, for the movie, and he was also there for the movement itself when it happened more than 20 years ago.
American Hardcore opens at Landmark’s Hillcrest Theaters next Friday, October 27th.
