The Iraqi Study Group briefed lawmakers on Capitol Hill about their suggestions Wednesday. San Diego Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter praised the bi-partisan nature of the report. Benjamin Shaw reports from Capitol Hill.
Some lawmakers on the Hill have suggested the report is a rebuke of President Bush’s war policy to date. But Hunter says the report should not be used as a partisan tool to attack the President.
Hunter: Let’s get behind this president. He’s going to be evaluating this. He knows well all of the participants. They’ve worked together on many foreign policy issues in the past. Let’s speak with one voice coming out of this process.
A leader of the group, former Secretary of State Jim Baker stressed the bi-partisan nature of the report when presenting it to Congress. Hunter – chair of the House Armed Services Committee – says he has his own recommendation: move trained Iraqi battalions from less violent regions into Anbar province and Baghdad.
