Viruses and Bacteria Contaminate Coastal Runoff

Tom Fudge: Rain is almost always welcome in arid San Diego, and this weekend’s showers are already greening up fields and hillsides. But just about anyone knows that rain also fouls our coastal waters with runoff. Local officials test for bacteria levels in the water after it rains. But a new study makes it clear that deadly viruses are also in the water after a rainfall, at least near the Mexican border.
