Supervisor Roberts, State Senator Peace Launch Waterfront Vision

County Supervisor Ron Roberts joined forces with former State Senator Steve Peace Tuesday to launch a vision of how San Diego’s bayfront Embarcadero could be developed. KPBS reporter Alison St John has more.

Roberts and Peace want a wider civic discussion about the possibilities along San Diego’s unique waterfront. Since the public voted to keep the airport at Lindbergh Field, Peace says traffic could be rerouted to free up space along the Harbor. The Navy Broadway Complex is also on the brink of major change.

Supervisor Roberts, whose background is in architecture, says this is a unique time in San Diego’s development

Roberts: About 100 years ago the big idea was Balboa Park and about 50 years it was people visualizing what Mission Bay could be.

Roberts says now it’s time to focus on the waterfront.

Roberts: A vision, to do something truly magnificent.

Peace and Roberts are calling on civic leaders, planners and the community to see that the publicly owned land along the bay is developed to its fullest potential.
