Tom Fudge: Nobody in this country goes into military service to get rich. But it's a shame that the people who serve in uniform are so often short of money. San Diego is a great example of a place where military pay doesn't keep up with the cost of living. And the challenges of making ends meet don't end when local sailors and marines leave the service.
This is why Mark Baird and his wife founded HirePatriots.com. Actually, it was originally called HireMarines.com, but when they saw what a strong response they got to the job site, from all members of the military, they decided to change the name. Mark and Tori Baird will recieve a LEAD San Diego award for their work.
Hire Patriots is hosting a job fair for all military, veterans and their spouses. The fair will be this Thursday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at the Anchors Conference Center on the Naval Base in National City. There will be over 100 employers offering full and part-time jobs. Check the website or call 760-730-3734 for more details.
