Tom Fudge: This week is the 46th anniversary of the Peace Corps. It was formed by President Kennedy in 1961 to encourage young Americans to work for positive change in the developing world. Today, we're going to take a little bit of time to consider what the Peace Corps has been doing for all these years. We'll soon hear from the deputy director of the corps.
Joining me in studio is Jeremy Parker. He's a graduate student at UCSD. And he spent his Peace Corps years in Niger. Incidentally, that's where he met his wife, who also volunteered for the Peace Corps.
In celebration of the anniversary, there will be an array of cultural events, including a Spanish night this Thursday with ethnic food and speakers.
