The Governor of Baja California and a top customs official discussed border traffic at the SanYsidro Port of Entry. Among other things, the two will work together to better estimate border wait times and prevent unregistered Sentri users from using the Sentri lane. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
Customs Field Operations Director Adel Fasano says her agency has difficulty estimating how long it takes cars to cross from Tijuana to San Diego.
Fasano: Because often we can't see the end of the line. We have some camera systems at the port, but they don't extend very far into Tijuana.
Fasano says posting cameras deeper in Tijuana would help. She says Governor Elorduy says he'll look into it. Fasano says Elorduy also pledged to help crackdown on people who are not registered for the Sentri fast pass program but try to use the Sentri lanes.
Fasano: It actually happens a lot more than we'd like it to many, many times a day and it seems to have gotten worse lately. People I suppose trying to get in the Sentri lane to cross faster.
Fasano says those people are sent directly back to Mexico. Elorduy will ask Tijuana police to patrol the Sentri entrance. Amy Isackson, KPBS News.
