“Kite Runner” Author Discusses Afghan Culture in "A Thousand Splendid Suns"

Alison St John (Guest Host): Afghanistan crops up in the news a lot, thousands of American soldiers are deployed there, and yet the culture remains something of a mystery to many of us. Khaled Hosseini 's (pitcured) new novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, takes us into the lives of two Afghan women, from very different backgrounds, who both find themselves, through twists of fate and the horrors of war, married to the same abusive husband. The plot is heart wrenching, but the connection between the two women carries us through a story that reveals much about what's been going on in Afghanistan over the last 30 years.
