San Diego County Budget Focuses on Retiree Pensions
Alison St John (Guest Host): New federal laws that go into effect next year mean public agencies that looked reasonably healthy financially up until now, could suddenly appear up to their ears in debt.
Tomorrow, San Diego County could be one of the first agencies to address this issue, by reaching a settlement with its retirement board about future retiree health benefits.
Also tomorrow, county supervisors are expected to pass a $4.7 billion budget. Unlike the City of San Diego's smaller $2.8 billion budget, the County budget has received very little scrutiny.
The County Board of Supervisors will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, June 19 th , to approve the budget.
The San Diego County Employees Retirement Association has until June 30th to agree to a plan set out by the County Board of Supervisors.
