Tom Fudge: On Monday, 16 people were arrested at Pacific Beach . The people arrested clashed with police who were trying to break up a brawl among the beachgoers. By the end of the incident, 40 officers in riot gear had to respond to the tiff.

For Councilman Kevin Faulconer, this was the event that pushed him to support a ban on beach alcohol. The councilman represents many coastal areas, and he's always walked a fine line on the matter of beach alcohol consumption. But now he says he'll introduce legislation to ban drinking at Mission, Ocean and Pacific Beaches.
