UCSD's New Vice Chancellor Talks About Life and Learning in a New Academic Year
Tom Fudge: A month ago, as classes were getting underway at UCSD, the university announced the appointment of a new senior vice chancellor for academic affairs . His name is Paul Drake, the former dean of social sciences.
It wasn't the kind of announcement that made front page news. Yet, the vice chancellor is a powerful force at the UC campus. Considered the second in command, he's in charge of all of the campus' academic affairs, as his title suggests.
UCSD is considered among the best public universities in the country. How does it achieve and maintain that academic excellence? And what does it aspire to do in he future?
