California Coastal Commission Votes on Desalination Plant
Tom Fudge: We've been talking about a major public project on the Carlsbad coast for many years. I'm talking about the plan to build a water desalination plant at the site of an existing power plant. The plant is a project of the private company Poseidon Resources . And today the project goes before the California Coastal Commission for approval or rejection. And rejection is definitely a strong possibility. In fact, Coastal Commission staff have already recommended the commission turn it down. The staff say the plant would degrade water quality near the coast and harm marine life.
