Imperial Valley Residents Unite Against Proposed Sludge Plant
Tom Fudge: Residents of Imperial County voted in the February 5th Primary like all Californians. But it's not clear that the presidential race was the hottest item on the ballot. In fact, a lot of voters in the Valley came out to vote on Measure X . By doing so, they voted to ban the importation of sludge (sewage, in other words) to Imperial County from other locations. Measure X was spurred by plans from a Bakersfield company to establish a huge sludge plant near Niland. Its purpose would be to process and burn sludge from large urban counties in Southern California.
The infamous sludge plant leads our discussion this week about the big issues in the Imperial Valley.
