Award Winners Discuss Smart Growth Projects, Sustainable Land Use

Tom Fudge: Good urban planning means creating communities that are pleasant, attractive, functional and environmentally sustainable. Last week, the Urban Land Institute handed out its San Diego/Tijuana Smart Growth Awards. During the remainder of this hour we're going to talk about what kind of values the Urban Land Institute is trying to promote. And we'll tell you about some of the things going on in our region to improve the life of cities, on both sides of the border.

- Mark Steele , president of the MW Steele Group , and chair of the Urban Land Institute's 2008 Smart Growth Awards committee. Mark was the recipient of Smart Growth Visionary Award in 2004.
- Adam Krohn , is a recent UCSD graduate who worked on the Pervious Pavers Pilot project in Tijuana. The project coordinator, Oscar Romo, was the recipient of the 2008 Cross Border Award.
- Paul Malone , city manager for the City of San Marcos . Paul received the 2008 Blueprint for Excellence in Smart Growth Award for his work on the San Marcos Creek Specific Plan.
