Maureen Cavanaugh: Even after years of training at West Point and Army Ranger school, when the moment comes to make a decision under fire, a soldier learns that nothing really prepares you for war.
That's one of the realizations made in a memoir of service in Afghanistan called The Unforgiving Minute. It follows a young man's journey from his student days at West Point, to being a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, to coming of age during the attacks of 9-11, and leading a command as a US Army Captain in Afghanistan.
Craig Mullaney will be discussing The Unforgiving Minute tonight at 6:15pm at the Revelle Forum , which will be held at the Neurosciences Institute on the campus of UCSD.
