Maureen Cavanaugh : The Ancient Greeks taught us centuries ago that the truest form of entertainment does not distract, it confronts. Theatre often allows us to face our deepest fears and become enriched by the experience.

The play "Rabbit Hole," now being performed at the North Coast Rep, deals with one of the hardest imaginable subjects - a family's reaction to the death of a child.

The director, Stephen Eliot, says the ultimate goal of the production is to tell the truth. And in an effort to do that the Rep enlisted the help of a local group that supports bereaved families in real life.

The production of "Rabbit Hole" runs through April 26 at the North Coast Repertory Theatre .
