San Diego's Gaslamp district will get a little more seductive this weekend with the opening of burlesque themed club, The Pussycat Dolls Dollhouse, at the historic Keating Hotel. A similar club has been a hit in Las Vegas so the owners are giving San Diego a try.
Edward Kaen, owner of The Keating, classified the Dollhouse as "Coyote Ugly meets The Pussycat Dolls." Kaen said this nightclub on F Street features burlesque dancers in lingerie, but no nudity.
"Down in the Gaslamp there's a ton of different bars and different clubs," said Kaen. "But we thought this would be a little bit more of a fun concept that could appeal to everybody. And it brings something new to San Diego, which I think it needs right now."
Robin Antin, founder of The Pussycat Dolls, emphasized this is not a G-string kind of place. She said the focus is on high-energy dancing, female empowerment and having a fabulous time ... and women are more than welcome as patrons.
"They can actually learn a Pussycat Doll dance while they're there having fun," said Antin. "And that's a big thing for me that I always want to include the women so they feel like they can also, they leave and they go 'Wow, like I feel like I just found my inner doll.'"
Antin said burlesque-type clubs are popular in Europe and the Gaslamp District strikes her as having a European flair and variety.
Reality TV star Audrina Patridge from "The Hills" will be hosting the Saturday night opening.
