It is the unofficial start of summer with the opening of the San Diego County Fair, plus new dance and visual art experiences.

Wonderspaces

Wonderspaces is a pop-up museum of "extraordinary experiences" that includes everything from room-sized interactive art installations to virtual reality films.

Housed in a big white tent in Mission Valley, visitors can see pieces that have been showcased at Burning Man, Sundance Film Festival and SXSW. See the Wonderspaces lineup of artists here. The event also includes food and drink vendors.

How does it work? Every ticket has a date and time, your ticket grants you entry into the exhibition at your selected time.

Details: Opens at 10 a.m. Tuesdays through Sundays through July 30. Civita Park, Russell Parkway and Civita Boulevard, Mission Valley. $16 to $24; additional information.

"Minor Fall/Major Lift"

Dance

"Minor Fall/Major Lift" is a collaboration of live music and dance between John Malashock and the Art of Élan.

The performance features new choreography set to new music pieces performed live by New York's NOW Ensemble — Art of Élan’s Ensemble-in-Residence for 2017.

The theme of the dances is change and the way people deal with unfamiliar situations.

In San Diego, summer unofficially begins with the San Diego County Fair, which returns with a Wild West theme.

You will find fried food favorites, rides and games, art displays, local entertainment, beer and wine festivals, and plenty of concerts. This year's Grandstand Stage welcomes acts including Aloe Blacc, Patti LaBelle, Switchfoot, Trevor Noah and more.

Street Food Cinema is like a neighborhood party that combines food, music and movies.

A selection of cult favorites and family films will be screened throughout San Diego. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., a band begins at 6:30 p.m. and the movie plays at 8:30 p.m.
