We were going to talk about Frederick Wiseman's new documentary about the Paris Opera Ballet on Film Club of the Air this week but unfortunately it didn't work out. "La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet" opens today at the Gaslamp's Reading Cinemas and I can't wait to see it. Wiseman goes behind the scenes, following the company through seven different performances, filming rehearsals, and even documenting the make-up, costume and administrative departments. In Wiseman's strict observational style, without talking-head interviews or voice-over, this is bound to be an intimate look into the workings of a premiere dance company.
