The San Diego Student Shakespeare Festival (April 24th at noon in Balboa Park) is not a movie. I know that. But Shakespeare has been a passion of mine since my parents took me to my first play at the age of six. So bear with me while I sing the praises of this wonderful event.
Here is a video taken at the San Diego Shakespeare Society's Birthday Party for the Bard. The non-profit organization goes into schools, and helps students and teachers prepare scenes to present at the annual San Diego Student Shakespeare Festival in Balboa Park. Here's a brief intro to what they do. At the end one student, Arielle Algaze, performs a sonnet she composed in appreciation of the Bard.
I urge you to go to this amazing event. The students are full of passion for Shakespeare and the younger they are the more fearless they seem to be. This all goes to prove that early exposure to Shakespeare is key in helping students understand the language and appreciate the value of these works that are hundreds of years old and yet still relevant to their lives.
