Two Men on Border Patrol Poster Freed in Mexico

Mexican authorities have freed two men wanted for questioning by the US Border Patrol. Mexican officials say U.S. law enforcement never asked to speak to the men.

Photos of the two Quintero-Ruiz brothers appear on a U.S. Border Patrol poster seeking information about ongoing investigations. The Quintero-Ruiz brothers were in Mexican federal custody when the poster came out.

Mexican police had arrested them two days before the poster was published. Their arrest came on the heels of Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas' death. Mexican federal authorities said one of the brothers fingered Rosa's killer.

Mexican authorities also said the brothers were human smugglers wanted in both Mexico and the U.S. for murdering two migrants and a rape.

A US Border Patrol spokesman said he doesn't know if the men were ever in Mexican custody. Also, its not clear if or which U.S. law enforcement agency wants the Quintero-Ruiz brothers, as Mexican authorities said they do.

Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the FBI could not comment.
