Homeowners can find out how to lower their monthly utility costs and get cash rebates at one of several upcoming workshops in San Diego.
The California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) is holding a series of public workshops starting May 10 in San Diego focusing on a new statewide program called "Energy Upgrade California for Homeowners."
"The workshops cover how people can go about participating through this program and what those steps are," said Jack Clark, senior program manager for building retrofits at the California Center for Sustainable Energy. "Finding the right contractor to perform the work, to do the home energy assessment. And what rebates, incentives and financing is available to homeowners through this program."
Clark said the goal is to save energy and achieve greenhouse gas reductions by retrofitting existing homes with efficient systems and renewable energy technologies.
Clark said the new systems also make the homes more comfortable too.
He said another benefit of the program is creating jobs for contractors.
"What this program also does is it taps into our contractor base throughout the state and gets folks back to work," said Clark. "So this is very much an energy-efficiency program as well as a job-creation and stimulation program."
He said the long-term, statewide goal of the program is to give energy makeovers to all 13 million single-family and multifamily homes in California by 2020.
Clark said that would create an average reduction in energy use of 40 percent per household.
The first workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at CCSE’s Energy Resource Center at 8690 Balboa Avenue, Suite 100, San Diego (Kearny Mesa).
