Roughly 100,000 Californians were affected by the California Employment Development Department’s glitch in its payment system on Monday.
Those who currently receive unemployment and disability checks through the Bank of America EDD Debit Card program went two days without money on their card.
People who depended on the money being in the bank were out of luck.
“We realize people feel very vulnerable when they rely on their checks coming in on time and we appreciate their patience,” said EDD spokesperson Patti Roberts.
According to Roberts, payments are distributed every two weeks and on different days, depending on the cycle. Those affected expected payments on Aug. 27 and 28.
“EDD has used this system for a year and a half now and this is the first time we have experienced a computer glitch,” Roberts said.
The state computer system was fixed late last night and all payments have been disbursed and benefits are once again available.
