A late-night deal Wednesday opened the federal government.
Business confidence is waning in San Diego County due in part to the uncertainty linked to the federal government shutdown. The index was put together by the polling firm Competitive Edge Research and the San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
The survey asked 200 San Diego business owners about their fiscal outlook for the final three months of the year. Overall, the result was positive. However, this was the second consecutive month that the index value declined from the month before. Chamber President Jerry Sanders said the uncertainty created by the political standoff in Washington is fueling pessimism.
"Only 31 percent of businesses anticipate a revenue increase, and 70 percent see no change in the number of employees or employee hours in the fourth quarter of this year," Sanders said.
The survey also identified implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the election of the next San Diego mayor as major issues for business owners, according to Sanders.
