SDSU College Of Extended Studies Offers New Construction Programs

The College of Extended Studies at San Diego State University will offer online certificate courses for the construction industry starting in the spring.

SDSU's College of Extended Studies currently has hundreds of programs, with more than 50 certificate programs. And in the spring, three new certificate programs for construction will be offered as well. The programs focus on Construction Estimating, Construction Practices and Construction Supervising.

Many of the courses in the College of Extended Studies are not applicable to a degree, but are designed so that students can update their skills in a particular industry or as a pathway to a promotion -- and that is the hope for students, according to Communications Specialist Steve Dolan.

Courses can be completed in as little as one semester, or longer depending on the student.

Although the construction industry in San Diego is starting to recover from the struggling economy, the addition of new construction programs is not intended to impact the industry. Rather, the intent is to provide on-the-job, right away skills to help individuals in their existing careers, Dolan said.

Spring construction courses start Jan. 18. More information can be found at the college of extended studies website.
