California education groups said they're thinking about joining a lawsuit over the Governor's decision to eliminate school transportation funds. Governor Jerry Brown announced Tuesday the nearly two-hundred and fifty million dollar cut along with other mid-year spending reductions.
Dennis Meyers with the California School Boards Association said the timing of the cut is difficult, and will hit hardest on poor and rural schoolchildren. "So not only is this coming mid-year on top of everything that's happened so far, this cut is coming at such different levels to various districts it's going to have a huge impact - a negative impact on those students that need these services most," said Meyers.
Meyers and other school officials said they're considering joining a federal lawsuit filed by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Schools are required to provide transportation to certain students, including those with special needs.
