More than 60,000 students applied to UC San Diego and nearly 23,000 would-be freshman were accepted for fall classes, the university announced today.

Out of 60,800 applicants, 22,947 were admitted as incoming freshman. Both figures rank as records, according to Mae Brown, assistant vice chancellor for admissions and enrollment services.

"We're thrilled UC San Diego continues to attract many highly qualified and dynamic students,'' she said. "Our students have made tremendous contributions to this campus, helping to establish UC San Diego as a world- renowned, academic powerhouse.''
