A new community clinic designed to treat developmentally delayed children is open for business in Logan Heights. The clinic offers a wide array of services, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
The new facility doubles the size of the pediatric developmental services department at the Family Health Centers clinic.
Regional Services Director Heather Summers says the clinic offers screenings for children up to age five.
"It's a brief developmental checkup," Summers points out. "You're looking at all of the areas of development: fine motor, gross motor, speech. And through those screenings, we also make referrals into this department for further specialty and follow-up care."
Pediatric physical, occupational, and speech therapists are available.
The goal of the program is to identify concerns early, so kids can get the help they need to get them ready for school.
Last year, the clinic screened or treated more than 6,000 children.
