Palomar Pomerado Health has unveiled a prototype of a mobile wireless system designed to help doctors make better decisions. The application provides real-time patient information to smart phones and wireless tablets.
Doctors don't always have a patient's medical information on hand, especially when out of the office.
The new system can deliver medical history, lab results, and even X-rays to a mobile device. It can pull up the vital signs of a patient who's hospitalized. And it's designed to work with a wide variety of different electronic medical-records systems.
Palomar Pomerado Health's Dr. Ben Kanter helped develop the app. He said it's a great tool.
"If I'm at a restaurant with my wife, if I'm at home on call," Kanter said, "if I am out of state and I get a phone call, I have access to your records."
Kanter said all of the medical information is stored on a secure network. Each user must have an access code.
He said the next step is to run the system by different doctors and get their feedback.
