The U.S. military begins a new offensive in Iraq called "Operation Iron Hammer." It's an apparent shift in strategy to crack down on Iraqi resistance. The offensive began a few hours after the suicide bombing of an Italian police base in Nasiriyah that killed more than 30 people, half of them Italian military police. NPR's Ivan Watson reports.
