French President Nicholas Sarkozy and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez mediate for the release of Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt. She is a former Colombian presidential candidate with dual citizenship in France and Colombia. Betancourt has been held since 2002. Her two children live in Paris. Other hostages include three American contractors. Last week Colombian rebels released two female hostages.
