Supplies Dwindle After Deadly Cyclone Hits Myanmar

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

It's MORNING EDITION from NPR News. Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

Residents of Myanmar's largest city are lining up to buy the last of the city's safe drinking water. Instead of electricity, they're using candles, which have doubled in price. Those are some of the conditions for survivors of a tropical cyclone. Official broadcasts say the storm killed almost 4,000 people in the country once known as Burma. Thousands more are still missing. One question now is how or even if the rest of the world can help a country that's largely isolated from the world. Myanmar's military government has been meeting with international aid agencies today. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
