The work of Dr. Seuss is everywhere, especially during Christmas time when the Grinch makes his appearance. Then there's Thing One and Thing Two, the Cat in the Hat and other classic Dr. Seuss characters.

But Exclusive Collections gallery in Solana Beach is hosting a not-so-well-known Dr. Seuss art collection.

“The secret art of Dr. Seuss, or the midnight paintings, which is what nobody knew,“ said Synthia Celestino, the gallery director at Exclusive Collections. “He was actually a fine artist while he was living, so that's why it's called the secret art, now not so secret."

The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection features well known characters, but visitors will also get to see a different side of Dr. Seuss.

“People always get amazed and say ‘Oh my gosh, I didn't even know he was a painter, this doesn't even look like Dr. Seuss, but now that you told me it's Dr. Seuss I can see a little Seussy reaction.’ Some are a little naughty, some a little funny, and there is a lot of cats,” said Celestino.

The colorful pieces show Dr. Seuss’s artistic range. But the meaning behind the art isn’t all that clear.

“It's interesting, just his imagination,” said Celestino.

The art displayed aren't originals, but are authorized limited edition prints reproduced from Dr. Seuss’s original drawings, paintings, or sculptures.

The exhibit runs everyday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., until Dec. 31, and is family friendly and free.
