San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria launched a new program on Monday that aims to speed up the construction of affordable housing.
The "Bridge to Home" initiative combines local, state and federal dollars to finance seven affordable housing developments across the city. Those projects would create 662 homes for low-income households spread across San Diego, with most of them in San Ysidro or downtown.
"I think we're trying to achieve multiple aims here to have a more functional, more healthy housing economy in San Diego," Gloria said.
The mayor joined KPBS Midday Edition on Tuesday to discuss a variety of issues including homelessness, traffic safety and how the city plans to handle a massive infrastructure funding shortage, which Gloria called "enormous."
